World Thinking Day Volunteer Recap - Katrine
28 February 2010
Our Pax Lodge Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of our World Centre. Especially during busy times of the year everyone comes together to help put together successful events and make participants experiences memorable. This past week we celebrated World Thinking Day and we have recruited some of our amazing volunteers to diary about their experiences. Next up is Katrine from Denmark, our most recent arrival, who had spent just a day at Pax Lodge before experiencing the exciting whirlwind of World Thinking Day at our World Centre.
Pax Lodge was a really busy place as I first arrived here during the World Thinking Day week. It was special and very funny to be a part of the week, but a challenge too, because I haven't completed my training yet and didn't know anyone yet.
The day after my arrival was Friday, when people began arriving for our World Thinking Day weekend activities. Before lunch I was introduced to my life at Pax Lodge, and just after lunch I was asked to help prepare things for the weekend programmes. Saturday the weekend programmes started, and I had my own activity station. It was food tasting, so it wasn't hard, but I was nervous because I still hadn't completed all of my training, and I had never tried to lead a station while speaking English.
But it was two really funny days that I enjoyed being a part of. I am glad I came here to experience the World Thinking Day at the world centre, because I think it's really special to be here, and feel the spirit of other guides, who celebrate the World Thinking Day. It will be a World Thinking Day I will always remember.
In the evening of Saturday we had an indoor 'campfire'. It was really funny. I like campfires, and this one was special. We did a lot of singing. Seeing the girls enjoy the fun and have a good time was a very special thing, and that is usually why I love being a guide leader. The campfire would be my favorite part of the weekend.
As a new volunteer at Pax Lodge I also became a part of the team, as I had to work together with the other volunteers and staff members in another way than I will do normally. World Thinking Day was a great way to start my stay at Pax Lodge!
