Our Ark

Our Ark ( 1939-1959 )Opened in 1990, Pax lodge is the newest of the four World Centres. However, it is not the first one in London, it is actually the third.

Our Ark was the first World Centre to be built in London, and the second in the world. It opened in 1939 in Palace Street, next to the World Bureau.

Our Ark remained at Buckingham Palace Street until 1959. By 1956, the world of Guiding and Scouting had grown so much and so many member wanted to visit Our Ark, that it was time to consider moving to 45 Longbridge Road in September of 1959. The World Bureau was not far away on Ebury Street.

In 1963-1964, Our Ark celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The World Centre was re-named Olave House to honour the World Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell. The World Chief Guide performed the re-naming ceremony on 5 November , 1963.
